Description

Agricola (Georgius) De re metallica, translated by Herbert Clark Hoover and Lou Henry Hoover, illustrations throughout, original vellum, spine lettered in black, uncut, very slightly soiled, folio, The Mining Magazine, 1912.

⁂ An excellent copy. Hoover had made a fortune in gold mining and lavished some of it on this impressively produced translation, which he made with his wife Lou. It is touchingly dedicated to their old Professor at Stanford, where the couple met.
