Voragine (Jacobus de) Legenda aurea sanctorum, sive Lombardica historia, collation: a b10 c-z8 aa-oo8 pp6 qq8 rr-xx8 yy10, double column, 363 ff. (of 364, lacking initial blank), 40 lines, Gothic type, opening initial in red and blue with short marginal flourish (a little scuffed), other initials in red or blue, partly rubricated, qq8 blank, small repair to blank lower inner corner of bb1, mm3-8 puncture hole at head, affecting part of first line of text on mm5-7, water-stained, occasionally a few small unobtrusive wormholes in text, some spotting or finger-marking, 18th century mottled calf, rebacked, preserving majority of original gilt, backstrip, corners worn, rubbed, folio (267 x 192mm.), Cologne, Johann Koelhoff, the Elder, 1479.
⁂ A rare edition at auction of this collection of hagiographies. Indeed, of the copies recorded by ISTC around a third are imperfect. Only two copies recorded in both the UK (including ours) and the USA.
