Hooper (John) An Oversight and Deliberacion upon the Holy Prophete Jonas, first edition, printed in black letter, woodcut title border, woodcut initials, final leaf with recto blank and colophon to verso, some contemporary ink annotations, occasional foxing, staining and a few tears, bookplate of M.H. Bloxham, contemporary blind-stamped calf, worn at foot of spine and corners, upper joint splitting, lacking ties, preserved in modern cloth box, [STC 13764], 8vo, by Jhon Daye, 1550.
⁂ Rarely found complete and here in a generally very well-preserved contemporary binding. ESTC notes another edition with errata on the recto of final leaf Z8, here blank. Hooper (c.1495-1555), Bishop of Gloucester, and Worcester, was a protestant reformer and martyr, burnt at the stake in Gloucester (illustrated in Foxe's Book of Martyrs) after Edward VI's church legislation had been repealed once Mary had become Queen.
