Sweet (Robert) Flora Australasica, first edition, 56 hand-coloured engraved plates by S. Watts after E.D. Smith, occasional foxing, small ink stamp to title, modern calf-backed cloth, [Great Flower Books p.143; Ferguson 1144; Nissen BBI 1924], 8vo, 1827-28.
⁂ The third illustrated work devoted to the botany of Australia, and the first with illustrations taken from live specimens rather than dried plants or field sketches. It is written from the perspective of Sweet the horticulturalist rather than that of a botanist and is concerned with the cultivation of exotic plants for British gardens and hot-houses, as he himself grew in his nurseries.
