Gemology.- Jeffries (David) A treatise on diamonds and pearls. In which their importance is considered; and plain rules are exhibited for ascertaining the value of both; And The True Method Of Manufacturing Diamonds, first edition, list of subscribers, 30 engraved plates (no. 22 duplicated), some depicting cuts of diamonds, some occasional light foxing, but a very good, clean copy generally, contemporary calf, gilt, neatly rebacked, some wear to extremities, [Goldsmiths' 8500; cf. Hoover 453],printed by C. and J. Ackers, in St. John's-Street, for the author, 1750.

⁂ Rare first edition of 'the first book in English to describe how diamonds and pearls can be evaluated on the basis of the factors of size (or weight) and style of cut, with allowances being made in the case of diamonds where cut stones depart from the 'ideal' proportions that were accepted as standard in Jeffries' time". (Sinkankas 3198).
