Lewis (Cecil Day) Good group of autograph material from when he was a Director at Chatto & Windus, comprising: Readers' Reports, draft letters, blurbs etc, including various rejections, suggestions regarding revisions etc., the blurbs for new publications or re-issues including Isherwood's Goodbye to Berlin and other works by William Sanson, V.S. Pritchett, Richard Hughes etc., c.25 items on c.50pp. in total, 1950s.
⁂ Rare to find such a batch of original manuscript material by C. Day Lewis. Such manuscripts would have been passed to a typist and then discarded. A young Spaniard working for the publishers from 1948-54 obtained permission to rescue some pieces for his own collection, where they remained until recently.
