This work was likely executed around the time of Dylan Thomas's death in 1953. Richards was profoundly affected by the passing of the great poet and produced a large body of work which was informed by Thomas' poems, the present work is likely one of these studies that weas later used as the inspiration for the portfolio 12 Lithographs for Six Poems by Dylan Thomas.
