⁂ The first is an authoritative and now very scarce guide to mining published in Sheffield and dedicated to William Cavendish (1720-1764) Marquis of Hartington, later the 4th Duke of Devonshire. It Includes methods employed in finding veins of various ores, the laws regulating the mining industry, and articles for mines in Derbyshire, Devon and other locations. The last concerns the effect of the gold discoveries on European prices.
