David "Davy" Crockett (1786-1836) was a frontiersman, soldier, later congressman, and prolific story-teller. Known as the 'King of the Wild Frontier', his exploits remain a legacy of the all-American frontiersman of 18th century America. Growing up in East Tennessee, he was later elected to U.S. Congress where he vehemently opposed the policies of Present Andrew Jackson, especially in the Indian Removal Act, and after his death he was continually credited with acts of fabled proportion. His adventures - both mythical and real - have since awarded him the status of an American folk hero.
