⁂ Salome was first published in France as a result of the Lord Chamberlain's refusal to allow the planned production with Sarah Bernhardt in the title role. The English version with the Beardsley illustrations was published the following year. Bookplate of C.S. Ascherson and ownership inscription of Arthur H. Walsh dated Feb. 1893.
