Crawhall's comts." at head of first page of text, woodcut and wood-engraved vignettes and illustrations by the author, Joseph Crawhall III, James Guthrie and W. Chapman throughout, some hand-coloured, colophon printed in red and black, foxing, bookplate of Collingwood Lindsay Wood of Freeland, later ink inscription to front free endpaper, handsomely-bound in contemporary panelled calf, gilt, by Waters of Newcastle, upper cover with panel containing title & decorations in gilt and small illustrations in black after Crawhall, lower cover with onlaid snakeskin panel, g.e., rubbed, rebacked with gilt spine preserving old red roan label, [Westwood & Satchell p.69], Newcastle upon Tyne, printed by Andrew Reid for the Author, 1881.
