Description

Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) St. Jerome by the Pollard Willow, drypoint, 1512, a somewhat faint yet delicate impression of Meder's III.a on laid paper with partial watermark of a Large City Gate [Meder watermark no. 268], with retouching and the early signs of the split to the plate in the lower left, showing along the back of the sleeping lion, but before the hole in the rock at the centre left, a scratch can be seen over the face of St Jerome, other wiping scratches are visible elsewhere in the plate, careful repair to loss in the upper left and right corners, scattered surface dirt (unframed)
