Description

Joyce (James) Autograph Card signed to Tullio Silvestri, in Italian, on verso of Joyce's card-de-visite, light soiling and creasing, 67 x 109mm, 9, rue de l'Universite, [Paris], [c.autumn 1921].

An excellent card from Joyce discussing the impending publication of Ulysses. Joyce refers to "un articolo sul mio Ulisse nel Secolo" [an article on my Ulysses in the Secolo" and asks that Silvestri seek out and reserve him two copies.

Tullio Silvestri (1880-1963), impressionist painter. He met Joyce in 1913 whilst the two were living in Trieste. Silvestri painted portraits of both Joyce and his wife Nora (famously referring to her as the most beautiful woman he had ever seen). He was also witness to the public falling out of Joyce and Roberto Prezioso and was even at points financially supported by the writer.
