The Story Brought by Brigit was performed at the Abbey Theatre in April 1924 and published the same year, it imagines the Irish Saint Brigid of Kildaire as being present at the crucifixion. Lady Gregory's interest in the Irish saints was born out of her passion for cultural nationalism, beginning in 1906 with the publication of her A Book of Saints and Wonders.
