Montfaucon (Bernard de) Les Monuments de la Monarchie Françoise, 5 vol., first edition, half-titles to all but vol.5, fine engraved portrait of Louis XV and 306 plates, many double-page, B4 in vol. V margin repaired, occasional spotting, a few small stains, a few small repairs, contemporary mottled calf, spines repaired, preserving original gilt backstrips in compartments, some corners little worn, some repaired, rubbed, [Cohen-de Ricci 732], folio, Paris, Julien-Michel Gandouin & Pierre-François Giffart, 1729-1733.
⁂ First edition of this monumental work on the history France from its origins to the reign of Henri IV. It is an important iconography of this period, and is rich in details concerning royal coronations, entries, and funerals. Volume 2 includes a number of plates illustrating the Bayeux Tapestry.
