Cotman (John Sell, painter and etcher, 1782-1834) Autograph Letter signed to his patron Dawson Turner, 3pp. & address panel, sm. 4to, [Norwich], St. Martin at Palace, 31st March 1834, written shortly after Cotman had been appointed Master of Landscape Drawing at King's College London, a post he gained partly on the recommendation of JMW Turner, and now back in Norwich writes in high spirits for the future, "I shall now endeavour to make my hay whilst the sun shines and to prove I can if I choose be a man of business", and declares that he and his family have been saved at the eleventh hour, "Tears of Joy and hope are frequently at my eyes and my heart is bursting with gladness. - And I feel if possible more sensitive than ever...", folds, browned; and 5 other letters, comprising: 4 ALs.s. from Bernard Berenson, 1899-1900 and an ALs from Francis Galton, scientist, to his cousin Emma Wilmot, née Darwin, 1879, v.s., v.d. (6).
