Mackenzie and other famous chess players seated and standing around a chess board, albumen print, captioned with names, laid down on card, 1891 photograph including W.G. Grace on verso, both slightly yellowed and with some small wear, 202 x 282mm., 1885.
⁂ Joseph Henry Blackburne (1841-1924), chess player; "Blackburne was the most popular figure in the English chess world from the moment that he took up chess professionally". - Oxford DNB. Captain George Henry Mackenzie (1837-91), Scottish-American chess master. The photograph also includes in the audience, Rev. John Owen (1827-1901), amateur chess master; ranked among the world's top ten chess players for certain periods of the 1860s.
