⁂ For Macmillan's edition of Northanger Abbey published in 1897 but with the artist's later addition of watercolour, as in similar drawings for the work in Jane Austen's house at Chawton (see Gilson E89). The original illustrations were reproduced in the book (much smaller) as black and white line drawings but the artist then added watercolour to sell the designs separately. The manuscript label gives the title of the drawing as 'An addition to their Set' but in the book the illustration is captioned 'I beg your pardon, Miss Morland'.
