A ship was also acquired to discharge and take in cargo at Holywell Beach, an apparent landing bay being still visible on the cliff slope immediately north of the site of the engine shaft. This working ceased about 1855. A military camp was built in the area during the Second World War and all the mine buildings were destroyed, including the castellated stack.
