⁂ First mentioned, a manuscript collection of poems, most apparently original, the majority in English, some using Scots dialect, with footnotes indicating the publication of a few of the pieces in English and Irish periodicals (The Carlisle Patriot, The Jewish Expositer and Friend of Israel). Several of the poems are addressed to young women, others are on local incidents with several references to Carlisle and Caldewgate. In addition to poetry in English and Scots, three other languages or scripts are used briefly: some Latin versification, two pages with Hebrew (with English renderings); and what appears to be a kind of Runic script to certain poems, most particularly those of an amorous nature.
