[Prayers against the Plague etc.], manuscript in English and Latin, 72pp. in a clear late 17 century hand, ruled borders, bound at end of an incomplete French Catholic prayer book dated 1671, slightly browned, new endpapers, modern antique style calf, 12mo, [c. 1680].
⁂ Prayers include: "Whosoever saith this prayer following in the worship of God and St. Rocke [Saint Roche, c. 1348-76/79, invoked in prayers against the plague] shall not dye of the Pestilence, by the Grace of God"; "A prayer to be said to the Ble: Virgine mary the which was found at the Monastery of St clares, in Portugall: the which being said the Plauge seased."
Compiled by an English Catholic probably living in France, the prayers seek protection against the plague, intercession by the Virgin Mary and St. Winifred of Holywell.
