DNA and protein structure.- Pauling (Linus) John Kendrew, Max Perutz, Robert Corey and others. [A collection of 15 papers on the study of protein structures, haemoglobin and the race for DNA], original journal issues, 1950-89.
Hammer Price: £3,800
Description
DNA and protein structure.- Pauling (Linus) John Kendrew, Max Perutz, Robert Corey and others. [A collection of c.20 papers on the study of protein structures, haemoglobin and the race for DNA], 15 vol., original journal issues, in American Chemical Society, Nature, Scientific American and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, illustrations, ink library stamps, occasional foxing, original wrappers or contemporary cloth-back boards (some with wear to covers) with wrappers bound in, those in wrappers with some wear to spines and a few ink ownership inscriptions or ownership stamps to upper covers, 4to, 1950-89.
⁂ A superb collection of papers charting the discovery of protein structure, for which Pauling, Kendrew and Perutz all won Nobel Prizes, that provided the basis for breakthrough on DNA made by Crick, Watson, Franklin and Wilkins. Papers here include Pauling's "Two hydrogen-bonded spiral configurations of the polypeptide chains" and "Determination of the structures of complex molecules and ions from X-ray
diffraction by their solutions"; Pauling and Corey's "Configurations of polypeptide chains with equivalent cis amide
groups"; Perutz et al.'s "Structure of Haemoglobin", Kendrew et al.'s "Structure of myoglobin" as well as Kendrew's "The Three-Dimensional Structure of a Protein Molecule". The journals also include work from Nobel Prize winners Calvin, Mulliken, Schwinger, Chandrasekar, Ochoa and others.
