⁂ Accounts of the author's three voyages the first of which included visits to New Orleans and the mouth of the Mississippi (shown on map 2), before continuing to Acapulco and then on to Manilla, India and Lebanon. In 1773 he was part of Kerguelen's second voyage to Australia; and in 1776 he embarked on a whaling expedition to Spitzbergen and the northern lands; the final plate depicts a caught whale being cut up.
