Nelson (Admiral, Lord).- Hamilton (Emma) Autograph Quatrain entitled 'Veni Vidi Vici', written in Emma Hamilton's hand and reading "Two thirds of Caesars vaunted Fame/ Thou Nelson must Resign/ to Come & see was Parkers Claim/ to conquer only Thine", on paper mounted on card with later inscription on mount "Epigram on the Battle of Copenhagen composed by and in the handwriting of Lady Hamilton", 77 x 137mm., mount 219 x 233mm., [1801].

⁂ Nelson was second in command to Admiral Hyde Parker, who was naturally more cautious in his approach to engaging the enemy fleet but Nelson managed to persuade his superior to attack the Danish fleet. It was during this battle that Nelson famously put his telescope to his blind eye in order to ignore Parker's signal to retreat.
