Atabey copy.- Zarain (Aga) A Relation of the late seidge and taking of the city of Babylon by the Turke, translated by W[illiam] H[olloway], first edition in English, woodcut head-pieces and decorative initials, lacking initial blank, title stained and with repair to upper blank corners and a very small tear near foot, A3 upper blank corners repaired, sig. C minor worm trace to upper margin, some spotting or light staining, final blank verso soiled, antique style calf-backed marbled boards, spine in compartments and with leather label, [Atabey 590; STC 26122], small 4to, Printed by I[ohn] Raworth for N[athaniel] Butter and N[icholas] Bourne, 1639.
⁂ Atabey copy of the scarce first edition in English of 'an account of the siege and battle before Babylon, i.e. Baghdad, from November to December, 1638. Following the successful siege of Baghdad in 1638, when Sultan Murat IV took the city back from the Persians, the Sultan ordered his troops out into the rest of Mesopotamia to restore Sunni Islam by force and to drive out the Shia mollas who had dominated there over the previous half-century.'
