Cordiale quattuor novissimorum, collation: a-g6, 39 ff. (of 42, lacking g3-4 & g6 [blank]), 46 lines, gothic type, title with large woodcut illustration, single 9 line initial in red to a1v, 4 ff. with rubrication in red (a1v, a2r, a3r & a6r), small ink note in early hand to outer margin a1v & f3r, small paper repair to title blank upper edge (overlaying but not obscuring headline on verso), small hole to upper margin a2-3 & a5 touching headline first letter but without significant loss, g2 a small portion frayed at upper margin, g5 mounted on stub with silked and paper repairs to upper edges and some remaining small tears and tiny hole to text (no losses), faint browning, damp-staining throughout, modern boards covered with an early printed leaf, 4to (206 x 147mm.), Cologne, Heinrich Quentell, 1492.

⁂ Rare incunable edition of this medieval treatise on the 'last four things' (death, judgement, heaven and hell), generally attributed to Gerhard van de Vliederhoven and Dionysius Carthusiensis. The title woodcut depicts St. Gregory instructing two scholars, and was used often by Quentell between 1491 and 1495. We can trace only two auction records in the last 30 years.
