⁂ A handsome set of the works of Middleton with strong chess provenance. Vol. 4 includes the satirical play 'A Game at Chess', first staged by the King's Men at the Globe Theatre in 1624.

Provenance: Dr. Meindert Niemeijer (1902-87), Dutch lawyer, international chess master, and historian of the game (bookplate to vol. 1); J. W. Niemeijer, son of the above (bookplate to front free endpaper vol. 1).
