Falconet, 2 vol., priced throughout by Barrois himself (according to a pencil note by Hobson in vol.1), contemporary mottled calf, spines gilt and with red and olive morocco labels, some splitting to joint ends, vol. 1 worm hole to spine head, [Peignot 97, ‘Ce catalogue est un des plus considérables qui existent’; Taylor, pp. 132 & 240-241], 4to, Paris, Jacques-Marie Barrois, 1763.
⁂ Anthony Hobson's copy of this sale catalogue, which is particularly strong in medicine and natural history. Camille Falconet (1671-1762) was physician to both Louis XIV and Louis XV. Towards the end of his life he bequeathed all his rarest books (along with any not present in the royal collection) to Louis XV (some 11,000 books in total).
