Guerard at head of dedication, woodcut ornament on title, intials, head- and tail-pieces, 28 engraved plates (one double-page), very occasional light browning, the odd spot, but a very good, clean copy generally, neat ink contemporary calf, arms of Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, Comte de Toulouse to covers, neatly and sympathetically rebacked, retaining original gilt backstrip, corners neatly repaired, 8vo, Paris, Chez Jean Boudot, Jacques Collombay, et Jean Boudot fils rue S. Jacques, 1709.

Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, Comte de Toulouse (1678-1737), illegitimate son of Louis XIV and his mistress Françoise-Athénaïs, marquise de Montespan. Louis Alexandre became a legitimised Prince du Sang with the right to inherit the French throne and was granted the rank of Marshall of France in 1696, becoming commander of the royal armies the following year.
