Mathematics.- Beveridge (William) Institutionum chronologicarum libri II. Unà cum totidem arithmetices chronologicæ libellis, 2 parts in 1, first edition, text in Latin with some Arabic, Syriac and Hebrew, amongst other languages, occasional contemporary ink mathematical marginalia and notes to endpapers, occasional spotting or staining, lightly browned, contemporary blind-stamped and blind-ruled speckled calf, crudely repaired short split at head of spine, foot of spine and corners (one repaired) worn, some staining, rubbed and scuffed, marked, [Tomash & Williams B147; Wing B2095], small 4to, Thomas Roycraft for Walter Kettilby, 1669.

⁂ Includes a full explanation of the Chinese remainder theorem for the case in which the moduli are relatively prime, which was was the first general proof of the ta-yen rule. 'It is of interest from both a typographical and historical standpoint for the many different fonts of exotic character sets used to print out the tables, ranging from Hebrew and Greek to various Middle Eastern languages, including Arabic, Samaritan and Syriac.'
