Hill (Aaron) A Full and Just Account of the Present State of the Ottoman Empire in all its Branches, first edition, engraved portrait frontispiece, 7 engraved plates, each with explanatory leaf, list of subscribers, scattered spotting, browning to plates, occasional faint water-staining to bottom edge, new endpapers, modern antique-style half-calf, [Atabey 580; cf Blackmer 817], folio, for the Author, and to be sold by John Mayo, 1709.
⁂ The list of subscribers includes Katharine Humphreys and John Gay.
"Hill was 24 years old when he published his account of the Ottoman Empire. He had gone to Constantinople as a youth while Lord Paget, a relative of his mother, was ambassador there. He travelled extensively, returning to London in 1703 at the age of 18. Spencer calls this book 'one of the curiosities of literature' for the crassness and ignorance it displays." (Blackmer)
