Mayr (Heinrich von) Malerische Ansichten aus dem Orient. Vues Pittoresque de l'Orient, first edition in the original 10 parts, additional lithographed title, 60 lithographs, letterpress title and text in German and French, one or two faint marginal spots, loose as issued, original decorative paper wrappers, light spotting, slight creasing to edges, housed in modern drop-back box, [Bobins 153], oblong folio, Munich, Paris & Leipzig, Rittner & Goupil; Weigel, [1839-40].

⁂ Scarce complete in the original parts, with original wrappers.

"This was the account of Duke Maximilian von Bayern's journey through Nubia, Egypt, Palestine in 1838. The plates are scenes in Eastern life, including a doctor's visit to the Harem. Interestingly because of his professional status he was the only detailed external source of information re women's lives, health etc. in the harem at the time, a source of great interest to European observers."
