Campanus (Johannes Antonius, Bishop of Teramo) Opera, edited by Michael Fernus, collation: a b8 c4 d-o8 p10 A6 B-I8 K6 L M8 Aa2 Bb-Gg8 Hh10 aa4 bb cc8 dd ee6, Roman letter, initial spaces with guide-letters, a couple of ff. with initial-strokes in red, early ink marginalia, lacking final blank, sigs. m and n bound in reverse order, title browned / soiled, mostly marginal water-staining, some mostly marginal spotting or foxing, sigs. cc and dd minor marginal wormholes / trace, 19th century blind-stamped calf, sympathetically rebacked by The Abrams Bindery (ticket to inner rear cover), preserving majority of original gilt and blind-stamped backstrip in compartments, corners restored, rubbed and marked, folio (312 x 208mm.), [Venice], [Bernardinus Vercellensis, for Andreas Torresanus, de Asula], [c.1500, likely 1502 (see note)].
⁂ Rare edition at auction of the works of this 15th century Italian humanist, orator and bishop, who was part of the circle of the humanist Julius Pomponius Laetus. 'A re-issue is known with sheet a2/7 and quire ee reset, and the date 1 July 1502 added to the colophon (BMC V (reprint) p.lii, CIBN). There is no reason to assume that the undated issue should also be dated 1502' (ISTC).
