'Huguenot pope'.- Mornay (Phillippe de) Tractatus de Ecclesia, quo praecipuae quae hoc nostro tempore agitatae fverunt quaestiones excutiuntur, collation: †4 A-P8 Q R4, italic type, title with woodcut printer's device, woodcut head-piece and decorative initials, small ink ownership stamp to lower margin of final verso (showing through), some spotting, lightly browned, modern black crushed morocco, 8vo (148 x 90mm.), [Antwerp], Gillis van den Rade, 1581.
⁂ Rare early edition of this work on the principal ecclesiastical questions of the day by this French Protestant Monarchomach. His influence at court was so great that he was popularly styled 'the Huguenot pope'. USTC records only one copy.
