Lyly (John) Euphues and his England, woodcut device on title, title trimmed at foot with loss of date, Printed for William Leake, [1609]; Euphues. The Anatomy of Wit, woodcut device on title, Printed for William Leake, 1613, together 2 works in 1, both largely printed in black letter, final leaf of second work laid down, later blind-stamped morocco, g.e., joints slightly rubbed, [STC 17079 and 17063], 4to
⁂ "Euphues, the Anatomy of Wit is arguably the first English novel although it has a very thin plotline". (UCLA Clark Memorial Library). First published in 1578, this and its sequel Euphues and His England (1580) "aimed at providing lively court entertainment, at the same time supplying instructive lessons about friendship and love." These are probably the 14th and 15th editions respectively, the last to be separately published, although probably intended to be bound together.
