Astrology.- Lilly (William) The Starry Messenger; or, An Interpretation of that strange Apparition of three Suns seene in London, 19. Novemb. 1644. being the Birth Day of King Charles, first edition, title within typographic border (just trimmed at foot), woodcut illustration on title repeated on B1 verso, woodcut diagrams, decorations and initials, modern calf-backed marbled boards, [Wing L2245], 4to, Printed for John Partridge and Humphry Blunden, 1645.
⁂ Scarce fiery republican pamphlet, published on 14 June 1645, the day of the battle of Naseby - a great Parliamentarian victory. Lilly, a noted astrologer since the 1630s, interprets the apparition of three suns as decidedly favouring the parliamentary cause.
