M[eteren] (E[mmanuel Van]) A True Discourse Historicall, of the Succeeding Governours in the Netherlands, and the Civill warres there begun in the yeere 1565, first edition in English, translated by Thomas Churchyard, mostly black letter, title with woodcut ornament, woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces, title shaved at foot with loss to much of date, lacking A2-3 (dedicatory prelims) and final blank f., closely shaved at head, touching a few headlines, soiling and occasional staining, 19th century red straight-grain morocco, gilt, spine gilt in compartments, extremities a little rubbed, [Palau 166946; STC 17846], small 4to, for Matthew Lownes, 1602.

⁂ Includes references to America as well as an account of Drake's 1589 expedition to Portugal and the Low Country campaigns in which Sir Philip Sidney, Gascoigne, and Barnaby Rich were engaged, with an account of the death of Sidney.
