The Angel with the Key to the Bottomless Pit, from: The Apocalypse
Woodcut, circa 1497-98, an early impression from the first German or Latin text edition of 1498, without text verso (as issued), slightly over-inked in places, on laid paper without watermark, sheet 385 x 285 mm (15 1/4 x 11 1/4 in), several old repairs, with the chained Satan removed, possibly by a viewer offended with the depiction of Satan himself, sympathetically restored with blank space in the lower right quadrant (unframed)
