Dutch Marine Society.- Sandau (Bernard van, Anglo-Jewish notary, scrivener and translator, of Basinghall Street, London, fl.1793-1822) Memoirs relative to the Seminary for the Marine at Amsterdam, manuscript, title and 334pp., ruled in red throughout, with several amendments, corrections and comments, title browned at edges, modern brown crushed morocco, gilt, small 4to, dated at dedication 1793.
⁂ A remarkably comprehensive account of the first few years (1781 to 1791) of this charitable organisation which was modelled on the Marine Society of London founded by Jonas Hanway in 1756 (see lots 66 & 75).
