[Swan (John)] Speculum Mundi or a Glasse Representing the Face of the World; Shewing Both that is Did Begin, and Must Also End, first edition, title within typographic border, woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces, lacking additional engraved title and initial and final blank ff., title with lower corner restored with loss to border, small rust-hole to B2 and 3C4, 3N1 with small portion of loss to lower margin, 3X1 holed with loss to a few words of text, light dampstaining, ink inscriptions in several hands, [STC 23516], small 4to, [Cambridge], n.p., 1635.
⁂ First edition of this curious work, divided into six parts to represent the six days of Creation, essentially a kind of encyclopaedia of natural and mythical history. Includes references to winged dragons and unicorns as well as America and "how it came at first to be unknown".
