[Landor (Walter Savage)], "Calvus". Letters Addressed to Lord Liverpool and the Parliament, on the Preliminaries of Peace, first edition, advertisement f., light toning to margins, occasional light spotting or marking, attractive modern antique-style morocco-backed boards, edges uncut, [Sabin 40567], 8vo, 1814.
⁂ Rare, COPAC lists 4 copies only (BL, Aberdeen, National Library of Scotland and National Trust).
Landor first wrote the letters in 1813 in response to Napoleon's defeat at the Battle of Leipzig. They were originally intended for publication in the Courier but were rejected leading Landor to decide to publish them at his own expense. He was keen to keep his identity as author a secret, adopting the Calvus pseudonym and asking that correspondence with the publisher be addressed to 'Miss Rose, Mount Pleasant, Swansea'.
