⁂ 'In 1776, Joseph Wenman began to issue a series of cheaply produced plays, accompanied by small illustrations of actors in character. The plays were issued monthly, and the enterprise was continued in 1778 by his printer James Harrison. The series was produced until 1781, and was aimed at the cheaper end of the market. No general title was given to the series.' [British Museum website]
