⁂ The first is an important catalogue of grasses by the gardener to the Duke of Bedford, the great agrarian reformer. By laying out a quantity of plots with a variety of soils and seeds he conducted one of the first ecological experiments. This work was first issued in 1816 with original samples of seeds and dried specimens mounted on blank leaves.
