⁂ An expedition sponsored by the amateur entomologist James John Joicey to search for the rare giant Papilio butterfly. Barns was unsuccessful in obtaining a specimen but brought back many other samples of lepidoptera. He also hunted elephant and rhino and killed another large gorilla.
