Shaw (George Bernard) Geneva, second rehearsal copy, numerous annotations throughout in ink and pencil, typed and manuscript sheets tipped in, Lord Chamberlain's Office ink stamps to each page and printed label to upper wrapper, later cloth, original wrappers bound in, upper wrapper laid down, Privately Printed, 1938; and a small quantity of others, by or about the same, v.s. (sm.qty.)

⁂ One of only 44 copies printed. Geneva was Shaw's attempt to satirise Hitler, Mussolini and Franco, here named Herr Battler, Signor Bombardone and General Flanco. Due to the topicality of the play, Shaw made numerous revisions and alterations in order to remain current, it is partly these changes that are in evidence here, as are examples of censorship by the Lord Chamberlain.
