Armorial.- [Ordinary of Arms], 2 vol., 260 pages of pen and ink drawings of shields excluding numerous pp. with outline of shields, ruled in red, bookplates of Arthur E Vicars, George Oakley Fisher on front free endpapers, contemporary half calf, rubbed, chipped at head and tail of spines,Britannia watermark dated 1806, folio, [c. 1830].

⁂ Provenance: Sir Arthur Edward Vicars (1862-1901), herald and genealogist. Ink inscription: "Purchased at Sothebys 28 July /08 Lot 457, from Sir Arthur Vicars library... GOF." Vicars is mostly remembered for being in charge of the "Irish Crown Jewels", chiefly regalia relating to the Order of St Patrick which was stolen from his office in 1907. After an appeal he was dismissed from office and went to live at Kilmorna House in County Kerry. "On 14 April 1921 Kilmorna House was surrounded by an armed group of men, who ordered the occupants to leave and then set fire to the house. Vicars was taken into the garden by three of the men and shot dead." - Oxford DNB.
