Buckle, Trinity College, Cambridge to pastedown, handsome contemporary French red morocco, gilt, spine gilt in compartments with floral motifs, [Gaskell, 39], 4to, Birmingham, John Baskerville, 1770.
⁂ A handsome copy of "the rarest of the quarto classics" (Strauss & Dent, John Baskerville. A Memoir, 1907), and ""the rarest of all Baskerville's editions" according to Horne An Introduction to the study of Bibliography, 1814, p.xc (Appendix). It did not even "appear in the list of the book stock Sarah was trying to sell in 1775" (Pardoe, p.118). This copy does not have the additional 4 plates after Gravelot found in about half the copies according to Gaskell.
