Description

Larry Clark (b.1943)

Ex-Libris

The complete set of 250 offset-lithographed bookplates featuring ten different portraits, 1992, one signed and numbered from the edition of 100 in pencil, also numbered on the justification in black ink, each on wove paper, printed by Derrier L'Etoile Studios, published by Printed Matter Inc, New York, housed within the original grey archival document box, each sheet 127 x 76mm (5 x 3in) (multiple)

Clark's unflinching portraits offer viewers an intimate glimpse behind closed doors of his subjects' often risky personal lives. His inspiration comes from his own experiences as a teenager growing up in Tulsa, where he both photographed and participated in a culture of drug use and illicit activity. Since then he has dedicated his career to translating the drifts of adolescence, working with young people in marginalised American cities to produce provocative work around themes of lost innocence, sexuality and drugs.
