Description
Miss Bugs
Lost Faith in Pop, Found Warhol
The complete set of four screenprints in colours, 2011, each signed and inscribed 'AP' in black felt tip pen, each an artist's proof aside from the edition of 70, each on aluminium, each sheet 250 x 180mm (10 x 7in) (unframed) (4)
The collaborative duo behind Miss Bugs draw inspiration from the world around them, including pop icons, art history, contemporary culture and other artists. Borrowing symbols and styles from this rich pool of iconic imagery, the artists then reform their chosen muses by using their unique mixed media approach to create entirely new and reconstructed artworks. Their moto is, after all, borrowed from one of their own icons, Pablo Picasso, who said "if there is something to steal, I steal it!". Here the artists pay homage to Warhol's famous silkscreened portraits of Sixties icons. By adding rosary to the nude figure of Twiggy, the model not only references Renaissance religious paintings but is transformed into a modern day relic of the Pop era.
