⁂ A rare treatise arguing against the granting of indulgences. Karlstadt had seen wide-spread corruption within the Catholic church on a stay in Rome, and consequently in September 1516 he wrote a series of 151 theses that attacked indulgences. Along with Luther he was excommunicated in 1521.
